(2021-2022)
The field of prosthetics, particularly lower limb prosthetics, is a rapidly growing industry with new technologies emerging regarding customization, comfortability, and anatomical likeness. One particular area for improvement is the adaptability of prosthetic legs for growing children. Currently, children requiring lower limb prosthetics must be fitted for a new prosthetic every 8-12 months, placing an extra burden on patients and their families. Therefore, there is room for improvement in making adjustable lower limb prosthetics that are capable of adapting as the child grows. Creating such an adaptable prosthetic requires a universal piece that is durable and adjustable enough to withstand years of use and growth. Our team is dedicated to creating easily adjustable and low cost prosthetic components that help patients adjust their prosthetics, which allow those in remote areas without prosthetists to adjust their prosthetic limbs until they are comfortable.
